Welcome to the 20th Annual High Sierra Race
10-17
Finally a toss that went real good. 96 birds clocked in within 5 min and a speed of 1438 ypm.
I had to leave the loft early yesterday, so this result is printed out at 4pm. There was still some birds not home when I left but I hope they all will be there today.
The birds look and feels good so they should be ready for the final race.

As you can see from the 1st. day result from this Lovelock toss, it was another hard toss for the birds. I had birds come in all day and the later birds where spoked up and I could see they had flown real hard. We can speculate all we want in what is going on but we will not find the answer to that. My personal opinion to this is that there is so many falcons up there and if they hit a flock, the birds spread out in all directions and they keep flying for a long time. All of a sudden they find them self far away from the course and have to start to navigate there way back. This might result in spending the night out there and of course be exposed to more predators. Like I said, we will never know.
Congratulation to Filip Andreica who had the first birds in the clock and earned a free entry for this bird.
The birds needs to go out one more time before the race and I will get back to you when I decide the day for that toss.
The clock is still running for the Lovelock toss and when/if more birds comes home I will let you know.

9-30
The birds has been taken to 25 - 30 miles almost every day the last week and went to Sierraville Monday 29th. Result on this toss is posted.
I am looking for the best day this week to get them to the 150 mile toss. It seems like we are going to have some rain coming in later this week so I want to make sure they don't get mixed up with some bad weather. I just might have to wait until coming week end, but I will keep you posted.
The birds looks good .... we have a few that still are in a body molt but they should be out of it in not to long.

Sept. 9-18
166 birds by noon Thursday. Could have been worst but it also could have been better. I can see some of these birds have had a rough time out there so I am going to let them rest and just loft fly them for the rest of this week. Next week I will give them some short tosses ( 30 - 40 miles ) and if all looks good take them across the hill again that week end. Probably to a 80 mile toss.
I will also try to update the Inventory page this week end.
Congratulation to A & A Lofts, NV who had the first bird in the clock from this 100 mile toss and earned a free entry for this bird. ( Remember that this free entry can not be transfered to any other birds.)

It's always kind of scary the first time you bring the birds across the mountains, but it had to be done. I prefer to stay north of 80 and decided to bring them up to " Sierraville " Sunday 31st. A lot better spot in my opinion because the birds does not have to start climbing the mountains as they are released.
That Sunday was a nice day for a toss but some headwind though with some heavy wind gusts at times, but it stayed cool all day .
166 birds on the day out of 196 was a little bit less then I expected, but I am glad most of the rest came in the 2nd.Day. I could see some of the 2nd day birds had been flying for some time to get home, so because of that I have given them some rest this week for the late ones to catch up.
Tomorrow ( Friday 5th ) they will go to a 30 mile toss and Sunday 7th I will take them to 80 miles which will be either ( Hallelujah Junction - north of Reno ) or Sparks.
After this week end I will try to get them out to 30 miles 3 times on the week days and have a long toss on the week end.
There is still some birds that are in their body molt, but they are all starting to look real good.
The 100 mile toss is set for Friday September 12th.
